ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Organization Requirements

Eligible organization types include higher education institutions, nonprofits, for-profit organizations, local, state, and federal governments.

Only NINDS may apply for the initial mentored phase on behalf of intramural neurologists or neurosurgeons.

Geographic Scope

Eligible applicants must be based in the U.S.

Non-domestic (non-U.S.) entities are not eligible to apply.

Project Requirements

Research must not involve leading an independent clinical trial.

Candidates must propose a research experience in a clinical trial led by a mentor or co-mentor.

Financial Requirements

NINDS will contribute up to $125,000 per year toward the salary of the career award recipient during the extramural phase.

Indirect costs are reimbursed at 8% of modified total direct costs.

Timeline Requirements

Applications are due by 5:00 PM local time of the applicant organization.

The total project period may not exceed 5 years.

Previous Funding Considerations

Individuals are not eligible to apply if they have had any individual NIH career development award or have pending applications for other PHS career development awards.
