Application Process Overview
- The application journey comprises four distinct steps:
- Submission of a short proposal.
- Preparation and submission of a full proposal.
- A face-to-face interview with the EIC Jury.
- Negotiation of the grant component and due diligence for the investment component.
Step 1: Short Proposal Submission
- Submission Window: Proposals can be submitted at any time.
- Evaluation Process: Remote evaluation conducted by EIC expert evaluators on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Feedback Timeline: Applicants typically receive feedback within approximately 4-6 weeks.
- Required Materials:
- A concise short form summarizing the innovation, market potential, and team composition.
- A pitch-deck (up to ten slides) in PDF format.
- A video pitch (up to three minutes) featuring core team members.
- Outcome: Successful short proposals receive a 'GO' and are invited to prepare a full proposal.
Step 2: Full Proposal Submission
- Submission Deadlines: Full proposals must be submitted by periodic cut-off dates for either Accelerator Open or Accelerator Challenge funding (e.g., March 12, October 1 for 2025-2026).
- Evaluation Process: Remote assessment by three EIC expert evaluators.
- Result Timeline: Results are typically provided within 8-9 weeks.
- Required Materials:
- A comprehensive full business plan.
- A pitch deck in PDF format.
- A 3-minute video pitch.
- Outcome: Successful full proposals ('GO') lead to an invitation for an interview.
Step 3: Pitch your Innovation
- Interview Scheduling: Interviews with the EIC jury usually take place 4–5 weeks after the announcement of Step 2 results.
- Interview Format: The specific format will be determined closer to the date (e.g., for March 12 cut-off, interviews June 2-6, 2025; for October 1 cut-off, interviews January 19-23, 2026).
- Result Timeline: Interview results are provided within 2–3 weeks.
Step 4: Negotiation and Due Diligence
- Grant-only path: Upon successful selection, the Grant Agreement is signed, and the first pre-financing payment is received.
- Blended finance path: Project details are shared with the EIC Fund for investment assessment. Business Acceleration Services (BAS) provide support in finding additional investors. The final investment decision is made within 2-6 months. If due diligence indicates the company is not yet mature for investment, the grant component may proceed, with re-evaluation of the investment at defined milestones.
Expedited Schemes
- Fast Track scheme: Allows proposals resulting from existing Horizon Europe or Horizon 2020 projects to submit directly to the full application stage (Step 2).
- Plug-In scheme: Similar to Fast Track, but applies to proposals from existing national or regional programmes certified by the EIC.
