Support educational activities that enhance the training of a workforce to meet the nation's biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research needs.
Focus on developing innovative short courses for skills development in mental health research.
Graduate/medical students, medical residents, postdoctoral scholars, and early-career investigators.
Institutions and organizations involved in mental health research.
Eligible organization types include higher education institutions, nonprofits, for-profit organizations, and government entities.
Specific eligible organizations include public/state controlled institutions of higher education, private institutions of higher education, nonprofits with and without 501(c)(3) status, small businesses, and various levels of government.
U.S. organizations are eligible; non-domestic (non-U.S.) entities are not eligible to apply.
Foreign components of U.S. organizations are allowed.
Proposed short courses must focus on skills development relevant to mental health research.
Courses should include both didactics and hands-on research experiences.
Application budgets may not exceed $200,000 in direct costs annually.
No cost-sharing is required.
Application due date: May 25, 2025.
Letter of intent due 30 days before the application due date.
Institutions with existing NRSA training grants may apply if the proposed educational experiences are distinct from those currently receiving federal support.
Applications must follow the SF424 (R&R) Application Guide and include a letter of institutional commitment.
Applications will be evaluated based on significance, investigator capability, innovation, approach, and environment.
Applications will undergo scientific peer review and will be assessed for scientific and technical merit.
Priority will be given to applications that address key needs in research education and advance the NIMH Strategic Plan.
Courses must be designed for a national audience and cannot be limited to local or regional participants.
Applications that do not comply with submission instructions may be delayed or not accepted.
Programs should align with the current NIMH Strategic Research Priorities.
Strong institutional support and a well-justified program can enhance competitiveness.
Demonstrating a clear need for the proposed course and its alignment with NIMH priorities.
Failing to adhere to application guidelines and submission deadlines.
