NIDCR Small Research Grants for Oral Health Data Analysis and Statistical Methodology Development

To support meritorious research projects involving secondary data analyses of existing oral or craniofacial databases or the development of statistical methodologies for analyzing such data.

Eligible organization types include higher education institutions, nonprofits, for-profit organizations, small businesses, local, state, and federal governments, and tribal governments.
Nonprofits must have 501(c)(3) status or not have such status.
Foreign organizations are eligible to apply.
Open to U.S. and non-U.S. entities.
Non-domestic components of U.S. organizations are eligible.
Projects must involve secondary data analyses or development of statistical methodologies.
Research must be distinct from the original aims of data collection.
Direct costs budget up to $100,000 per year.
Maximum of $200,000 over two years.
Application due date is May 7, 2025.
Projects must be completed within two years.
Applicants may submit more than one application if each is scientifically distinct.
No duplicate applications under review at the same time.
Applications must comply with the NIH application instructions and include a Data Management and Sharing Plan.
Applications will be evaluated based on significance, innovation, rigor, feasibility, and expertise.
Applications undergo peer review and are assessed for scientific and technical merit.
Priority given to studies addressing causality between risk factors and health outcomes.
Applications proposing new statistical methodologies must justify their relevance to oral and craniofacial research.
Studies that merely describe correlations or associations are of lower priority.
Aligning research with NIDCR's strategic plan may enhance application competitiveness.
Strong justification for proposed methodologies can provide a competitive edge.
Clear justification of data sources and methodologies.
Avoid submitting overlapping applications.
Engage with existing data sources and justify their use.
Highlight innovative aspects of the proposed research.
