Non-domestic (non-U.S.) entities are not eligible to apply, but non-domestic components of U.S. organizations can apply.
Organizations must be based in the U.S. or have U.S. components.
Applications must include at least three interrelated research projects.
Projects should address a common central theme within the NHLBI's mission.
Direct costs are capped at $1,515,000 per year, or $1,765,000 if including an ESI-led project.
No cost-sharing is required.
Application due dates include January 25, 2024, and subsequent dates every few months until September 25, 2026.
Applications are due by 5:00 PM local time of the applicant organization.
No more than half of the projects in a funded application may overlap with currently funded individual research project grants.
Applications must follow the Multi-Project Instructions in the How to Apply - Application Guide.
A letter of intent is encouraged but not required.
Applications will be evaluated based on scientific merit, innovation, approach, and integration of projects.
Applications undergo a two-step review process by a Tailored Review Committee and the Heart, Lung, and Blood Program Project Review Committee.
Overall impact score will reflect the likelihood of the project to influence the research field.
Encouragement of new scientific directions and inclusion of Early Stage Investigators.
Applications that do not comply with submission instructions may be delayed or rejected.
Collaboration among projects is essential for success.
Strong institutional support and previous experience in leading research projects are advantageous.
Thematic integration among projects and strong leadership are crucial.
Avoid submitting overlapping applications or failing to meet compliance requirements.
Engage with NHLBI staff early in the application process for guidance.
Highlight unique aspects of the proposed research and collaborative potential.
